Tender count, not yacht size
Everything about a mixed diving and non-diving group comes down to one number: how many tenders the yacht carries. Two hulls means two independent programmes. One means a compromise, every single morning.

Kayra Phinisi and The Oracle each publish a single tender, and several classic phinisi do not publish a tender list at all. That does not make them unsuitable — it makes the split an operational question to ask the owner, not an assumption to make.

Two things follow from that schedule. First, the non-diving half of a mixed group is not waiting around — it is running a parallel programme, provided the second tender exists. Second, nobody is negotiating at breakfast about whose day it is, which is the failure mode on a shared liveaboard and the actual reason mixed groups charter privately.

Non-diver charter questions
If half my group dives, what do the rest of us do?+
You go somewhere else, at the same time. 11 of the 20 yachts we charter run two or more tenders, which is the hard requirement for splitting the morning: one boat drops divers on the wall, the other takes non-divers to a shallow reef, a beach or a viewpoint. On a single-tender yacht everyone moves on the divers' schedule, whether they wanted to or not.
Which yacht suits someone who will not get in the water at all?+
Look at what the vessel offers between excursions rather than what it tows behind it. 7 yachts have a cinema or projector, 4 a library, 6 a gym or yoga space and 8 carry Starlink. Kudanil Explorer has an indoor cinema, a library lounge, a rooftop jacuzzi and the Java Spa; Vela has cinema under the stars and 400-plus films in every suite.
Can I work from a Raja Ampat yacht?+
On the 8 yachts with satellite internet, realistically yes for email and calls. Silolona publishes the actual allowance — 250 GB per seven nights — which is the only hard figure in the fleet. Mutiara Laut notes that Starlink coverage is subject to satellite footprint in remote areas of Raja Ampat, which is the honest caveat: it is good, not guaranteed.
Do non-divers pay less on a private charter?+
No, and that usually works in your favour. The rate is for the whole yacht, so it does not change with how many people dive. On Dunia Baru and Lamima diving is already inside the base rate, meaning divers add nothing; where diving is billed separately — Mutiara Laut prices a Discover Scuba dive at USD 150 and computer rental at USD 15 a day — a non-diver simply never incurs it.
Is there anything to do on the boat itself in the middle of the day?+
That is when the yacht repositions, and it is the part non-divers tend to enjoy most: two to four hours under way through the karst with nothing scheduled. Shaded deck space is the thing to check. Alila Purnama publishes outdoor daybeds with shade umbrellas across the main deck; Anne Bonny lists aft-deck hammocks; Fenides has two shaded sun decks plus indoor and outdoor dining.
Who looks after the non-divers while the dive team is out?+
16 yachts name a cruise director, trip leader or excursion lead on the published crew roster, separate from the dive staff. That is the person who runs the non-diving half of the day. Kudanil Explorer goes further and names a Head of Diving and a Lead Surf Guide as separate roles, plus a Director of Experience.
