Every question answered

How much does a Raja Ampat yacht charter cost?+

Private yacht charters in Raja Ampat start from around USD 2,500 per night on classic phinisi, USD 6,000–9,500 per night on premium phinisi, USD 9,000–15,000 per night on luxury yachts and USD 15,000–25,000+ per night on ultra-luxury superyachts. Cabin charters on liveaboards range from USD 500–1,500 per person per night.

How much is a 5-night Raja Ampat yacht charter?+

A 5-night private charter runs roughly USD 12,500 total on a classic phinisi, USD 30,000–50,000 on a premium phinisi and USD 65,000–100,000 on a luxury phinisi, before park fees, diving and gratuity.

How much is a 7-night Raja Ampat yacht charter?+

A 7-night private charter runs roughly USD 17,500 total on a classic phinisi, USD 45,000–65,000 on a premium phinisi and USD 90,000–130,000+ on a luxury phinisi, before park fees, diving and gratuity.

How much is a 10-night Raja Ampat yacht charter?+

A 10-night private charter runs roughly USD 25,000 total on a classic phinisi to USD 130,000–200,000+ on a luxury phinisi. Ultra-luxury 10-night charters can exceed USD 250,000.

What is the cheapest private yacht charter in Raja Ampat?+

The lowest entry point for a fully private yacht charter is around USD 2,500 per night on a classic phinisi such as Dewata. Below that price, you're looking at cabin charters rather than exclusive-use bookings.

Are Raja Ampat Marine Park fees included in the yacht price?+

Almost never. Raja Ampat marine park fees are approximately USD 65 per person (IDR 1,000,000) and are paid directly on arrival — separate from the yacht charter rate.

Is diving included in a Raja Ampat yacht charter?+

Diving is usually an add-on, priced around USD 40–60 per dive with equipment. Some ultra-luxury yachts include a set number of dives; most yachts price it separately.

Is alcohol included?+

Non-alcoholic drinks and often house wine are included. Premium alcohol, spirits and champagne are typically extra — either from the yacht's bar list or with a corkage fee if you bring your own.

Is a cabin charter cheaper than a private yacht?+

For solo travellers and couples — yes. A cabin liveaboard costs roughly USD 500–1,500 per person per night, which is typically less than the per-person equivalent of a small private charter. For groups of 6+, private charter is usually better value per person.

What is APA?+

APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) is a pre-paid expenses fund used on some larger luxury yachts to cover fuel, port fees and consumables during the charter. It typically runs 20–30% of the base charter fee, with unused funds returned at the end.

How many nights do you need for Raja Ampat?+

Five nights is the practical minimum, seven nights is the recommended balance between route, comfort and price, and ten nights is ideal if you want to include both Misool and Wayag on the same trip.

Is 5 nights enough for Raja Ampat?+

Five nights is enough for a taste of Central Raja Ampat and the Dampier Strait dive sites, but too short to comfortably include Misool or Wayag. It works best for travellers combining Raja Ampat with another Indonesian destination.

Is 7 nights enough for Raja Ampat?+

Seven nights is the sweet spot. It's enough to cover one full region properly — either Misool or Central Raja Ampat with Wayag — without the pace feeling rushed.

Is 10 nights worth it in Raja Ampat?+

For most travellers, yes. Ten nights is the only length that comfortably combines Misool and Wayag, and per-night pricing usually drops slightly on longer charters.

Can I visit Misool and Wayag on the same trip?+

Yes, on a 10-night charter. Attempting both on a 7-night trip forces long crossings and cuts your time on site — better to pick one region.

Where do Raja Ampat yacht charters start?+

Almost every private Raja Ampat charter starts and ends in Sorong (airport code SOQ), West Papua. Yachts embark and disembark from Sorong harbour.

What airport do I fly into for Raja Ampat?+

Domine Eduard Osok Airport in Sorong (SOQ). Most guests fly via Jakarta (CGK) or Makassar (UPG) with one domestic hop. Bali–Sorong routes usually connect through Makassar.

Can I start and end somewhere other than Sorong?+

Occasionally — some yachts run repositioning charters between Bali and Sorong or Sorong and Ambon. Standard Raja Ampat itineraries are round-trip Sorong.

What is the best time to visit Raja Ampat?+

October to April is the main Raja Ampat yacht charter season, with November through March offering the calmest seas and best underwater visibility. May to September brings stronger winds and rougher seas — most yachts reposition to Komodo during those months.

When should I book Christmas and New Year?+

Peak-season charters over Christmas and New Year typically book 12–24 months in advance. If you want a specific yacht on specific dates in this window, enquire early.

How far in advance should I book?+

For high-demand yachts and peak weeks (December–March), 12+ months ahead is normal. For shoulder weeks, 4–6 months is usually workable. Last-minute availability does surface — worth asking.

Is Raja Ampat good for diving?+

Raja Ampat is widely regarded as the world's most biodiverse dive region. Cape Kri holds the record for the highest number of fish species counted on a single dive (374). Manta Sandy, Blue Magic, Melissa's Garden, Magic Mountain and Boo Rocks are marquee sites.

Is Raja Ampat good for snorkelling?+

Yes — outstanding. Many of the best coral gardens sit in only 3–6 metres of water, so snorkellers see soft coral, reef fish and often mantas without needing to dive.

Is Raja Ampat good for families?+

Very good for families with children who can swim comfortably. Warm calm anchorages, snorkelling from the yacht every day, and crews used to hosting families make it a strong choice. Best from age 8 upward.

Can I do a private yacht charter for 2 guests?+

Yes, if you're prepared to charter a small phinisi (6–8 guest) at full private rate. On some larger yachts you can also book at reduced capacity — always cheaper per person than a two-cabin liveaboard booking.

What is a phinisi yacht?+

A phinisi is a traditional two-masted Indonesian wooden sailing schooner, originally built by the Bugis of South Sulawesi. Modern luxury phinisi keep the classic silhouette but add en-suite cabins, air-conditioning, dive decks and full crew service.

What is the difference between a phinisi and a liveaboard?+

A phinisi is a type of yacht (Indonesian wooden schooner). A liveaboard is a booking style (cabin-by-cabin on a scheduled departure). A phinisi can be chartered privately or offered as a cabin liveaboard — the two terms aren't opposites.

What is the best yacht for Raja Ampat?+

There isn't one best yacht — the right choice depends on group size, budget and priorities. Alila Purnama, Lamima and Prana lead the ultra-luxury tier. Aqua Blu and Kudanil Explorer are the top expedition-style vessels. Fenides, Celestia and Samara are the strongest premium phinisi.

What is the best luxury yacht in Raja Ampat?+

For pure luxury: Lamima (14 guests) and Prana (18 guests) sit at the top. Alila Purnama (10 guests) is the most refined smaller luxury phinisi. Dunia Baru and Silolona are consistent luxury-tier picks.

What is the best yacht for diving in Raja Ampat?+

Aqua Blu, Alila Purnama and Kudanil Explorer run the strongest dive operations — dedicated dive decks, PADI-trained crew and multiple tenders. Fenides is the best value-tier diving phinisi.

What is the best yacht for families in Raja Ampat?+

Dunia Baru, Aqua Blu and Mutiara Laut are consistent family favourites — seven-plus cabins, well-drilled crews used to children and strong watersports programmes. Prana suits very large multi-generational groups.

How do I choose the right yacht?+

Match your group size to yacht capacity, pick a price tier (classic / premium / luxury / ultra-luxury), decide between luxury phinisi and modern expedition, and confirm the crew is strong for your priority — diving, families or honeymoon.

Is Raja Ampat better than Komodo?+

Raja Ampat is usually better for remote scenery, world-class diving and longer 7–10 night trips. Komodo is usually better for shorter 3–5 night trips, easier logistics from Labuan Bajo, and big-fauna wildlife (Komodo dragons, mantas).

Do I need travel insurance?+

Yes — comprehensive travel insurance including dive coverage (if applicable) and medical evacuation is strongly recommended. Some yachts require proof of dive insurance for certified divers.

Is there mobile signal or Wi-Fi on the yacht?+

Most yachts have Starlink or comparable satellite Wi-Fi at reasonable speed. Mobile signal disappears once you leave the Sorong area — expect proper disconnection for most of the trip.
