Raja Ampat Yacht Charter with Crew

Yes. Every Raja Ampat private yacht is fully crewed. There is no bareboat option in the region — the crossings are long, the reef systems are unmarked, and remote anchorages need local knowledge that no chart plotter carries.

Across the fleet we work with, crew numbers run from 6 to 30 for 4 to 18 guests. The average is roughly 1.3 crew per guest. Dewata runs the densest service at 12 crew for 6 guests.

12 yachts carry named dive staff on the permanent roster — PADI or SSI instructors and divemasters rather than freelancers hired per trip. Celestia's excursion leader, Bartholomius Bal Rahawarin, is local to Raja Ampat with 14 years in the water here.

12 yachts carry one. They meet you at Sorong airport, run the nightly briefing on the next day's plan, coordinate diving against snorkelling against beach time, handle dietary requests with the chef, and manage village visits and permits. On yachts without one, the captain and chef split the role.

Yes — every yacht carries a full-time chef, and most carry a galley team behind them. Menus are a blend of Indonesian, Asian and Western. Dietary requirements are collected before departure because provisioning happens in Sorong or Bali, not mid-charter.

Guest-facing crew do. Cruise directors and dive guides are typically fluent, and several are multilingual — Celestia's Jennifer Tan works in English, Indonesian, Melayu, Tetum and Mandarin; Mutiara Laut's Arie Pagaka adds French.

5–15% of the charter fee is customary — 5–10% for good service, 10–15% for exceptional. Cash to the captain on the final morning, distributed across the whole crew including engineers and galley staff who you never see.

Crew bios are provided during the booking process on most yachts, and a video call with the cruise director is normal for longer charters, celebration trips and any group with unusual requirements.
